Internet-Based Learning

In the September 10th, 2008 JAMA there was a nice review/meta analysis titled "Internet-Based learning in the Health Professions". Any thoughts on the article?

  1. Thanks for posting the reference.

The authors undertook quite a project and I commend them on their process. The no significant difference results are not surprising, primarily because of their first listed limitation (ignored instructional design strategy). Although elaborate, and with some detailed analysis, this is in many ways still a media comparison study. From an instructional design standpoint, this type of research is not very meaningful(Clark, 1994) because it is the instructional strategy that matters - not the delivery medium.

Still, this analysis does lend some credence to technology-based instruction and is worth reading (if you're into this kind of thing).
